The chicken breast prototype has
been eight months in the making, and
it is Mogale Meat's entry to the global
XPRIZE Feed the Next Billion, a multiyear
competition with a $15 million
prize purse. The competition incentivizes
teams to produce multiple consistent
cuts of cell-cultured chicken breast
or fish filet alternatives.
Mogale also is working toward its
first cultivated wildlife meat prototype
which the company plans to reveal later
this year. Mogale is striving to improve
the socio-economic and environmental
impacts of consumer protein products
in Africa.
" Our next goal will be game meats,
a variety of meats that are not only
widely consumed in Africa, but also
sought after as healthy lean meats in
many countries around the world, " said
Bartels, CEO of the company. " Game
meats are also the tastiest of the venison
meat family, due to the great variety
of species found in southern Africa.
" Cultivated meat is destined to play a
significant role in conserving biodiversity
and wildlife species in Africa and
beyond, " Bartels added.
CULT management expects Mogale
to quickly expand as the company prepares
to open a seed round of funding in
the second or third quarter of 2022.

recently cultivated roughly 700 grams of
pure chicken fat biomass in a single production
run.

AJINOMOTO, SUPERMEAT FORM JV
Ajinomoto Co., a food and biotechnology
company, announced a partnership
with Tel Aviv, Israel-based SuperMeat, a
developer of poultry meat produced from
animal cells.
ALEPH FARMS TO DEVELOP
CELL-CULTURED COLLAGEN
MEATECH UNIT TO BUILD PILOT PLANT
Peace of Meat BV, a subsidiary of cultured
meat manufacturer MeaTech, entered an
agreement to build a 21,530-square-foot
pilot plant that the company expects
will expand and accelerate MeaTech's
R&D capabilities in the cultured poultry
meat space.
" Peace of Meat's new pilot facility
will expediate our entry into the market
for plant-based meat alternatives and
cultured products, " said Arik Kaufman,

Aleph Farms, a cultivated meat producer,
announced an expansion of the
company's product line that will include
cell-cultured collagen. The addition of a
platform for cell-cultured collagen aligns
with Aleph Farms' goal of developing a
complete alternative to farmed animals.
Collagen is a protein found in connective
tissue, bone, cartilage and skin.
It is used in a variety of industries and
as a nutrition supplement. Cell-cultured
collagen is the first product developed
by Aleph Frontiers, a division of Aleph
Farms' research center. The company's
collagen is moving to full product development
after 18 months of research
with plans to launch a product in 2024.

The goal of the joint venture is to
establish a commercially viable supply
chain platform for the cultivated

SuperMeat's technologies and expertise

R&D technologies in biotechnology
and fermentation.

An area of focus for the venture
includes the development of cell growth
media and ingredients applicable to cultivated
meat.
" Cell media, which contains the nutrients
needed for animal cell growth,
accounts for the majority of cultivated
meat production costs, " the companies
explained. " In order to satisfy the predicted
demand for cultivated meat and
become cost competitive with traditional
meat, further improvements will
be needed in the supply of growth factors,
including the reduction of inefficiencies
between supply and demand
for growth factors and the introduction
of food-grade growth factors. "
