Post Holdings supplier flock
tests positive for HPAI
Post Holdings Inc. said a Michael Foods third-party egg-laying facility in Iowa tested
positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Approximately 4.5 million egglaying
hens, which equate to 12% of Post Holding's controlled supply across owned and
third-party contracted farms, are housed in the facility, according to the company.
The outbreak is one of the first reported incidents of avian influenza in the Midwest
this season. Prior to this report, approximately 26 million egg laying hens have been lost
to HPAI in 2024. The virus has played a role in egg price volatility and has impacted the
overall egg supply.
Despite the incident, Post Holdings affirmed the company's outlook for the 2025 fiscal
year with a non-GAAP Adjusted EBITA of $1.41-$1.46 billion.

Fitch Ratings said
in its US Retail &
Restaurants Outlook
2025 report.
Fitch pegged
the sector's revenue
growth at 1.8% for 2025,
up from a projected
1.1% increase for 2024.
Those growth levels
remain well below
retail and restaurant
revenue gains of 3.4% in
2023 and 10.8% in 2022
- driven in part by
higher inflation - but
look to pick up slightly
in 2026, for which the
New York-based credit
rating agency forecasts
a 2.2% uptick.
Carbon Monoxide leak sends 11 to hospital
Eleven people were sent to the hospital on Dec. 7 after a reported carbon monoxide leak
at the Otto & Sons (OSI Industries) meat processing plant in West Jordan, Utah.
Reports from the West Jordan Fire Department said first responders found an
unconscious woman at the plant after responding to a call reporting the incident. Officials
stated carbon monoxide readings at the plant were 800 parts-per-million. The protocol
for the fire crews is to wear respirators for anything more than 35 parts-per-million. West
Jordan Fire added that it received help from neighboring fire departments responding to
the call.

Elevated prices
still weigh heavily
on consumers, Fitch
noted. In the year to
date through August
2024, retail sales were
37.9% higher than in
the same period in
2019. That percentage
also was up from 2023,
when retail sales were
35.5% higher versus the
pre-pandemic period.
