Nowadays, consumers prefer their meals at home, but sometimes the right
incentive can coax them out of the house, as Dickey's Barbecue Pit discovered
when the barbecue foodservice brand partnered with PJ Washington of the
NBA's Dallas Mavericks.
More than 400 people arrived at Dickey's original location in Dallas for
barbecue, autographs and pictures with Washington, according to the company.
During the meet-and-greet event, Dickey's sold a dine-in record of 146 lbs of
brisket and 79 lbs of kielbasa-style polish sausage in three hours. The Dickey's
team provided free water and sausage samples to diners while they waited to
meet Washington, who stayed until he'd met every guest in line.
" The entire team at Dickey's would like to thank PJ Washington for coming
out to our store and treating our guests to such a great afternoon, " said Laura
Rea Dickey, chief executive officer of Dallas-based Dickey's Barbecue Pit Inc.
" What a great way to prove that barbecue and basketball make a winning team.

Fry in the fat
A common equation in cooking is " fat equals flavor, " and few companies know
how this adds up better than Coast Packing Co., a leading supplier of animal fat
shortenings - particularly lard and beef tallow.
In observance of National French Fry Day (July 12) and National Beef
Tallow Day (July 13), Coast Packing asked fry-lovers to submit a favorite
restaurant that features beef tallow french fries along with photos of the fries
themselves. The most creative and tasty-looking entries competed for a Traeger
Flat Top Smashburger Kit, Le Creuset dutch oven and other prizes. National
Beef Tallow Day is an initiative of The Healthy Fats Coalition.
" For diners and home cooks, the message of our contest is simply, 'beef
tallow makes for a better french fry,' " said Greg Hozinsky, Coast Packing
corporate chef. " By any (and every) measure, beef tallow sets the standard for
how a fried potato should taste. One bite is all it takes. "

Son of a Butcher to
open Slider Bar
The latest foodservice burger
concept is opening a new location
in the suburbs of Fort Worth, Texas.
Called Son of a Butcher Slider
Bar (SoB), diners can get classic
burgers like Wagyu, chicken and
veggie in a slider size. Biweekly
Butcher Specials offer diners
something new to try, including
items inspired by global flavors and
seasonal ingredients.
