The International Poultry
Council (IPC) announced
that eight organizations
are endorsing the
council's antimicrobial
use stewardship
Chick-fil-A announces
new distribution center
Chick-fil-A is investing $31 million in a distribution
center in Olathe, Kan., announced
the Kansas City Area Development Council
(KCADC) on March 14.
The new center, stretching nearly
148,000 square feet, will create over 60 jobs
in the area. It will be located at Lone Elm
Commerce Center in Olathe, developed by
Frontier Real Estate Investment.
" The Kansas City area is a prime
location to invest in our business,
create jobs, and grow our supply chain
operation, " said Josh Grote, executive
director of Chick-fil-A Supply, a subsidiary
of Chick-fil-A Inc. " The region has a deep
pool of skilled talent that we know will
excel in serving the franchise operators,
licensees and team members delivering an
authentic Chick-fil-A experience at each of
our locations. "
The Olathe location would be
Chick-fil-A's fifth in the United States.
Through Kansas City's infrastructure and
transportation network, 85% of the US
population can be reached from the Olathe
location in two days or less, according to
KCADC's announcement.
Chick-fil-A officials anticipate the
distribution center will become fully
operational in early 2024.
Pilgrim's Pride accused of violating fair labor standards
A current Pilgrim's Pride employee from
Elbert County, Ga., filed a lawsuit against her
employer for a violation of the Fair Labor
Standards Act. Bennetta Green alleged that
Pilgrim's Pride neglected to pay her overtime
since her onboarding in May 2022.
Green is a superintendent over the
meat packing operations and her primary
responsibilities are working the production
line and packaging meat products. Her
responsibilities are the same as hourly
paid employees, the lawsuit noted. Green
said she would work 72 hours a week on
average, but because she was classified as
salary, she did not get paid time and a half
for those additional hours over 40.
Green filed an original collective
action complaint on behalf of herself and
other employees who allegedly " were
misclassified as salaried employees and
were not paid time and one-half their
respective regular rates of pay for all
hours worked over 40 in each seven-day
workweek, " the court documents said.
The complaint seeks compensation
for damages, including back wages,
liquidated damages, legal fees, costs and
post-judgment interest.

This initiative was
advanced through
the Transformational
Strategies for Farm
Output Risk Mitigation
(TRANSFORM), which is
funded by USAID and led
by Cargill Inc.
Four key principles
include:
* Taking a risk-based
approach to understand
specific use of
antimicrobials,
* Adopting management
practices to
reduce the need for
antimicrobials,
* Using antimicrobials
only in compliance with
national authorizations,
and
* Antimicrobials
critically important for
human medicine should
be used for therapeutic
purposes only and under
professional supervision.
