BUSINESS NOTES
Seaboard president, CEO dies
Steven J. Bresky, president, chief executive
officer and chairman of Seaboard Corp.,
died on July 10 in Kansas City, Mo., at the
age of 67.
"It is with a heavy heart that we
announce the sudden passing of Steven J.
Bresky, president, CEO and chairman of the
board of Seaboard," the company said in a
statement released on July 13. "The entire
Seaboard family mourns this loss. On behalf
of our board of directors, management team
and employees, we extend our deepest
sympathies to Steve's wife, Ellen, and
children, Elizabeth and Jack."
The statement went on to note that
Bresky, who was the third generation of
his family to lead Seaboard in its 102-year
history, "led and grew the company
substantially to where Seaboard is
today. His exceptional work ethic, longterm commitment to Seaboard's partners
and businesses, mandate that the company
produce quality products, and unwavering
desire to always do the right thing were
integral to the company's success and
made him truly one of a kind. He built
and nurtured an able and long-tenured
management team. Steve's children, Jack
and Elizabeth, and Steve's nephew David
Steinbrink, are proud members of the
Seaboard team."
Bresky had been head of the global
food, energy and transportation company,
since 2006, when he was appointed to the
position to replace his father H. Harry
Bresky, who had retired.
Seaboard is a leading pork producer/
processor in the United States and
operates a containerized shipping service
between the United States, the Caribbean,
and Central and South America.
Bresky was married to Ellen Bresky for
34 years. She survives, as do his children
Jack and Elizabeth Bresky, and his faithful
dogs Rita and Louie.
On July 20, the company's board of
directors elected Robert Steer as the new
CEO, effective immediately.

executive officer of Chef's Cut.
Kevin Murphy, managing director of
Sonoma Brands, will lead the Krave and
Chef's Cut businesses as interim CEO of
the combined entity.
"Our goal is to reenergize the premium
segment of the meat snacks category,"
Murphy said.
Hormel Foods Corp.
recently reopened the
Spam Museum which
the company said is
one of the most-visited
attractions in Minnesota.
The state of
Minnesota previously
closed all museums,
businesses and other
operations to help
stop the spread of the
coronavirus (COVID-19).
Under the Minnesota
Stay Safe guidelines,
non-critical businesses
that have in-person
customer interactions
must include additional
provisions to keep
customers and workers
safe. This includes
requirements that
workers and customers
must maintain physical
distancing of 6 feet and
that store occupancy
must not exceed 50%
of the establishment's
normal occupant
capacity as determined
by the fire marshal.
"While being closed
was the right thing to
do to help curb the
spread of COVID-19,
we are so excited to
open our actual doors
and our virtual one
and welcome guests
back to our museum,"
said Savile Lord, Spam
Museum and community
relations manager at
Hormel Foods. "For
those visiting us in
person, we have robust
cleaning and sanitation
protocols in place, as
well as following social
distancing guidelines."
Chef's Cut Real Jerky Co.
Just over a month after acquiring Krave
Pure Foods Inc. from The Hershey Co.,
Sonoma Brands snagged another premium
meat snack brand, Chef's Cut Real Jerky Co.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2009, Chef's Cut offers
jerky, meat sticks and biltong. The
brand will continue to develop products
alongside Krave as part of a protein
snacking portfolio within Sonoma Brands,
a private equity investment firm and brand
incubator. Krave products include meat
cuts, pork rinds and newly added plantbased jerky.
Jon Sebastiani founded Krave in
2009, igniting a gourmet meat snack
trend, and sold the business to Hershey
in 2015. The following year, he launched
Sonoma Brands, which has developed and
introduced brands including Smashmallow
and Peckish while investing in Dang
