Tyson plans
$355 million
investment
in Kentucky
Tyson Foods announced it will make
a $355 million investment to open a
400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility
in Bowling Green, Ky., that will focus on
Jimmy Dean and Wright Brand bacon
products. The company expects to create
450 jobs at the plant.

Warren County and Kentucky communities
that will help us continue to provide the
iconic Wright Brand and Jimmy Dean
products our consumers and customers
desire, " said Noelle O'Mara, group
president of prepared foods for Tyson
Foods. " As people actively look to add
Applegate introduces
Do Good Dog
Applegate Farms LLC, a subsidiary of
Hormel Foods Corp., is introducing the Do
Good Dog, a hot dog made with beef raised
on verified regenerative US grasslands.
The beef used in the product was
sourced from SunFed Ranch in Northern
California and has the Savory Institute's
Land to Market Seal. The cattle that supply
the beef for the Do Good Dog are part of
a system contributing to the regeneration
of up to 260,000 acres of US grasslands,
according to the Savory Institute, an
organization committed to facilitating largescale
regeneration of the world's grasslands.
" It's fashionable to argue that the only
way to fight climate change is to eliminate
meat, " said John Ghingo, president
of Applegate. " In fact, the opposite is
true. Animals have a vital role to play in
restoring soil health, sequestering carbon
and safeguarding the land against drought,
wildfires, erosion and other devastating
results of climate change. Our mission is to
scale regenerative practices beyond small
farms and niche markets. It's the only way
to make a big enough impact. "

more protein to their diets, Tyson is
uniquely positioned as a category leader to
meet that growing demand. "
The Bowling Green Area Chamber of
Commerce anticipates that the economic
impact for the new manufacturing facility
will exceed $2.7 billion in the next 10
years. The group expects Tyson Foods
employees will contribute $334,007,284
in household spending over the next
10 years which includes spending
$17,702,384 at local restaurants, spending
$11,690,254 in property taxes, $27,722,602
on groceries, $54,512,653 on health
services, and $4,212,000 on arts and
entertainment.
The spending generated by Tyson
employees also supports an additional
2,479 jobs in the community.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear was
among the state and local leaders that
praised the project Tyson will be taking on
in the next few years.
SunFed Ranch manages more than 1.5
million acres of US grasslands directly
and through its ranching partners. Its
partnership with Applegate has helped it
double its grass-fed cattle production, said
Matt Byrne, co-founder of SunFed Ranch.
" We are thrilled to join Applegate
in taking a leadership position to make
regenerative, 100% grass-fed beef that
is better for the planet and healthier for
families more widely available, " Byrne
said. " Applegate's commitment accelerates
our shared mission to move the beef
industry away from the commodity,
corn-based feedlot system as we continue
to scale one of the largest pastured cattle
ranching environments in the country. "
Swift Prepared
Foods to
acquire
Sunnyvalley
Smoked Meats
JBS S.A. announced
its subsidiary, Swift
Prepared Foods, has
reached an agreement
to acquire Sunnyvalley
Smoked Meats Inc. for
$90 million.
The Manteca,
Calif.-based company
produces a variety of
smoked bacon, ham
and turkey products
for retail and wholesale
customers under the
Sunnyvalley brand. The
acquisition by Swift
includes the company's
production facility
in Manteca, which
employs more than 300
people and has gross
annual revenues of $150
million.
" Today's announcement
is consistent with
our company's long-term
strategy to increase our
value-added and branded
portfolio, and provide
even more diverse
product offerings to
customers and consumers, "
JBS said.

rebranded itself as Swift
Prepared Foods at the
beginning of the year
as a part of its ongoing
strategy to put more
focus on the prepared
foods offerings its
business now includes.
