Pork Board gets 'real'
Transparency is an important factor
to many consumers, so Real Pork starts
off telling authentic stories about the pig
farmers and pig farms producing the pork
going on their family's dinner table.  
Real Pork made its first big entrance in
September with Pork as a Passport, which
celebrates pork's position as a culturally
relevant protein and showcases pork
dishes from cuisines across the globe.
A few planned Pork as a Passport
activities included:
x Matching pig farmers with global chefs
to connect over pork product;
x Highlighting globally-inspired pork
recipes with modern photography;
x Sharing information on global recipes
and flavors using pork through social
media influencers;
x Connecting US chefs with international
chefs to create shareable videos for
online and social media;
x Featuring pork as a street food in a
multicultural effort called Menu Urbano.
Information on other promotions that
are part of the program will be posted
on www.pork.org/realpork and on the
NPB's social media accounts.

Domino's said its stores across
the United States have implemented
cleanliness, sanitization and contactless
service precautions based on advice from
federal, state and local health officials.
Some examples of what the company
is doing include a pizza pedestal with
contactless pizza deliveries, closing in-store
seating and increasing the frequency of
sanitation of all regularly touched surfaces.
In March, pizza competitor Papa
John's announced that it would hire 20,000
workers during 2020. Chipotle Mexican
Grill recently said it would employ 10,000
people in the coming months. Dunkin'
Brands also announced a plan to hire
25,000 people.

Domino's Pizza announced it will be
hiring more than 20,000 workers in 2020.
The pizza chain said it is hiring delivery
drivers, pizza makers, customer service
representatives, managers and assistant
managers. Also, supply chain centers
in the United States are actively hiring
production and warehouse team members,
along with CDL drivers.
"We realize that these are tough times,
and not only do we want to maintain strong
service levels, but we also want to provide
opportunities to those who have lost their
jobs or are facing reduced hours," said Tom
Curtis, Domino's executive vice president
of operations and support. "Domino's
stores offer flexible work options,
which include part-time and full-time

Chicken
McNuggets
Spicy Chicken
McNuggets and Mighty
Hot Sauce were available
starting Sept. 16 at
McDonald's restaurants
for a limited time, the
company announced.
"This is the first time
we've introduced a new
flavor of our classic
Chicken McNuggets
in the US since they
came to menus in 1983,"
said Linda VanGosen,
vice president of
menu innovation. "As
our customers have
been asking for Spicy
McNuggets for some
time now, we couldn't
think of a better time
to bring them to our
menus. We can't wait for
McNuggets fans to get a
taste of these new spicy
options."
The McNuggets are
breaded with a tempura
coating made of both
cayenne and chili
peppers, the company
said. The Mighty Hot
Sauce, McDonald's first
new sauce innovation
since 2017, features a
blend of crushed red
peppers and spicy chilis.

Through a new master-brand strategy
called Real Pork, the National Pork Board
is celebrating the authenticity, flavor and
ability to bring people together that pork
provides. The new strategy comes
during a time in which consumers are
increasingly questioning which brands
and products they can trust and searching
out information about the products they
consume, according to the board.  
Since coronavirus hit the scene, pork
sales have surged over the last several
months. The new initiative aims to sustain
that growth beyond the pandemic by
highlighting pork's advantages.
"Real Pork not only celebrates the
authentic flavors of pork, it encompasses
the values and beliefs of the pork industry
from farm to fork," said Angie Krieger,
vice president of domestic marketing
at the Pork Board. "Our work began on
this master-brand strategy before the
coronavirus appeared in the United States,
but the shift in buying and cooking habits
the pandemic created certainly accelerated
our efforts. Six months in, consumers are
weary of meal preparation, they want new
experiences and to travel."
