Impossible
Foods rolls out
plant-based
patties to more
groceries

Beyond Meat
to build facility
in China
Beyond Meat (Jiaxing) Food Co. Ltd., a
wholly-owned subsidiary of Beyond Meat
Inc., is announcing plans to build a state-ofthe-art production facility to manufacture
plant-based protein products, under the
Beyond Meat brand, in China. The facility
will be located in the Jiaxing Economic &
Technological Development Zone (JXEDZ)
in Jiaxing city, southwest of Shanghai.
"Beyond Meat is building the perfect
road to long term success in China," said
Micky Pant, senior advisor to Beyond
Meat. "It has the confidence to set up
dedicated, cutting edge production capacity via a wholly-owned subsidiary, located
on the mainland close to Shanghai. The
JXEDZ is a visionary and proactive partner
with an excellent record in supporting the
food industry."
Beyond Meat is the first plant-based
protein company to build a production
facility in China.
"China is one of the world's largest
markets for animal-based meat products,
and potentially for plant-based meat," said
Ethan Brown, chief executive officer and

founder of Beyond Meat. "We are delighted
and confident that after several months of
productive and collaborative discussions,
we will partner with the JXEDZ to develop
two production facilities, including one
of the world's largest and technologically
advanced plant-based meat factories. We
are very impressed by the capabilities and
vision of the JXEDZ and they are the ideal
partner for us in this vitally important
country and market."
Candy Chan, general manager for
Beyond Meat in China added, "With its
expertise in the food industry, proximity
to Shanghai, and excellent logistics and
people capabilities, the JXEDZ will be
the perfect partner and location for our
ambitious plans for the China market."
Trial production is expected this fall.
Full-scale production is set to begin in
early 2021.

Eckrich unveils deli meat package refresh

Yum China

Eckrich, a Smithfield Foods Inc. brand,
released a new packaging design for its
portfolio of premium deli meats.
The new design is informed by both
qualitative and quantitative market
research, according to Smithfield. Imagery
on the packaging showcases the product in
a prepared fashion that is accentuated by a
white background. The company said the
new look is modern and approachable.
The new packaging will be used for
Eckrich's deli collection, including:
x Eckrich Deli Poultry - Top-quality
chicken and turkey that is cured, glazed,
roasted and smoked.
x Eckrich Deli Ham - Premium cuts of
pork that are cured, roasted and smoked

Impossible Foods is
expanding its footprint in
the grocery channel with
the launch of pre-formed,
quarter-pound (4-oz)
patties at nearly 2,000
grocery stores owned by
The Kroger Co.
Patty packs of the
Impossible Burger
will begin rolling out
at Kroger-affiliated
stores, including Kroger,
Ralphs, Fred Meyer,
Mariano's, Smith's and
others. The Impossible
Burger patties will be
placed in Kroger's fresh
meat section in 8-oz
packages and packages
of two pre-formed, 4-oz
patties. The patties are
also available for online
ordering through Kroger.
com for Kroger Curbside
Pickup and Delivery.
The packages are
made with recyclable
materials and feature
pull tabs for easy
opening. The Impossible
Burger patties retail for
$6.99 per package at
Kroger-affiliated stores.
