Agri Beef
confirms new
plant project
Officials from Agri Beef Co. announced
plans to build a new beef processing plant
as part of a partnership with cattle producers in the region around Jerome, Idaho.
The partnership, known as True West
Beef, is based on a strategy that provides a
beef-processing solution to recent production interruptions that challenged many
companies in the wake of the coronavirus
(COVID-19) pandemic.
According to Agri Beef, "True West Beef
is designed as an alternative model in the

beef processing segment where large facilities have come to dominate the industry.
It will be smaller and flexible in scale and
unique in structure, with livestock producers directly involved in equity ownership."
The new plant, which will have a
capacity of about 500 head per day and
is expected to create about 370 new jobs,
will operate with the same mission of
producing high-quality, sustainable beef
that has given Agri Beef and its partners a
reputation for excellence in the industry
and in the communities they operate, said
Jay Theiler, executive vice president of
strategy and public relations at Agri Beef.
"True West Beef will be a great
neighbor, community-involved and
environmentally friendly. We want Jerome
to be proud," he said.

The Impossible Burger is a plant-based
and bioengineered meat alternative that is
designed to rival ground beef from cows in
taste, nutrition and versatility.
Impossible Foods produces its plantbased burgers and other products at the
company's 68,000-square-foot production
plant in Oakland, Calif.

Plumrose USA, a
subsidiary of JBS USA,
announced plans to build
a new Italian meats and
charcuterie production
facility. A location for the
$200 million plant has
not yet been announced.

meats, like salami and
prosciutto," said Thomas

strategic commitment to

potential of protein."
The company's
long-term strategy has
included increasing its
value-added and branded
products - the new
facility is in line with
these corporate goals.
Plumrose USA was
purchased by JBS USA
in 2017. The company
was founded more
than 85 years ago and
produces bacon and
deli products in its
production facilities
in Booneville, Miss.,
Elkhard, Ind., Council
Bluffs, Iowa, Ottumwa,
Iowa, and Swanton, Vt. 
Globally, JBS has a
strong presence in the
value-added, Italian
meats category with
recognized brands.

Impossible Foods; Volpi Foods

Impossible Foods' plant-based Impossible
Burger is now available at Walmart stores
- soon in 2,100 Walmart Supercenter and
Walmart Neighborhood Market locations.
The 12-oz packages of plant-based ground
protein will be sold in the fresh meat section of the store.
"Impossible Foods' goal is to make
the global food system sustainable. To do
that, Impossible Burger has to be available
everywhere people shop for meat," said
Patrick O. Brown, MD, PhD, founder
and chief executive officer of Impossible
Foods. "More Americans buy meat for
their families at Walmart than anywhere
else. We're confident that once Walmart
customers try Impossible, they'll become
enthusiastic advocates of our products
and our mission."
With the addition of the Walmart locations, Impossible Burger will now be sold
in more than 8,000 grocery stores around
the country. The plant-based product
made its retail debut in September 2019 at
Gelson's Markets in Southern California.
Since the product's original debut in
July 2016, the Impossible Burger has been
adopted onto menus in more than 17,000
locations, including Burger King, White
