Burgers' Smokehouse counts on its smoked
and sauced products to satisfy consumers'
insatiable appetite for barbecue

hose who truly love barbecue do so with a
passion and fervor incomparable to other
foods. But artful and delicious barbecue
takes time and skill to execute. Those skills,
and often secrets learned only through trial and
error, might take years to learn and perfect.
California, Mo.-based Burgers' Smokehouse
takes the responsibility out of the hands
of would-be grill masters with a variety of
expertly prepared barbecue products available
by mail order through the company's website,
as well as at several retail grocery stores.
At any given time, Burgers' offers 20 unique
barbecue SKUs, in various sizes, product and
packaging configurations, including pork ribs,
pulled pork, beef brisket, burnt ends and pulled
chicken. Burgers' fully cooks its products and
markets them under the Homemade in a Hurry
line. The line offers products with or without
sauce and allows consumers to heat and eat
in under 30 minutes. Burgers' specifically
designed the product line so it could take
responsibility for the preparation and leave the
most important part, eating and enjoying great
barbecue, to the consumer.

SMOKIN' SALES
Burgers' attributes 5% to 10% of its total sales
directly to barbecue products. That business
has grown at a steady pace and continues
to grow with future co-packing projects in
the pipeline. The company plans to meet the
growing demand it sees in the retail barbecue
marketplace by continuing to work with
customers on high-quality barbecue products.
Whether intended for mail order or
business-to-business customers, Burgers'
produces barbecue items with the same
focus on detail and quality. Also, both sales

channels incorporate packaging with ready-tomicrowave trays for heat and eat convenience.
The distinguishable differences between
Burgers' mail order and for-retail barbecue
products are package sizes and sauce flavor
profiles. The offerings for retail grocery
partners come in specific package sizes with
specific sauces to meet the needs of the
retailer. Mail order products offer Burgers'
signature sauce and a standard package size.
The company continually works with retail
customers on which flavor profiles sell best
in which specific sizes and offers in-store
promotion incentives and digital coupons when
applicable, but the attention Burgers' gives its
retail relationships goes deeper.
"We work with our retail partners to
create and launch quarterly LTOs (limited
time offerings) featuring new, on-trend sauce
offerings for our fully cooked pork ribs," said
Carl Hermreck, senior vice president of sales,
Burgers' Smokehouse. "It allows input from
key customers and new and exciting products
for their consumers to enjoy our pork ribs."
The quarterly LTO sauce program creates
excitement and popularity among consumers,
and Burgers' retail customers see it in their
sales. The most popular item the company sells
in retail is the St. Louis Style Fully Cooked
Pork Ribs. Ribs also represent the most
popular mail order product.

item is our Rib Connoisseurs Gift Pack," said,
Chris Mouse, senior vice president of direct to
consumer sales, Burgers' Smokehouse. "Our
opinion is that it's most popular due to the
consumer's desire to have choices and variety,
especially if they are sending it as a gift."
