Niman Ranch meat is third-partycertified under the Certified Humane
program. All products are sustainably
raised without the use of antibiotics
or hormones.
HORMEL ANNOUNCES IOWA
PLANT EXPANSION
Hormel Foods Corp. announced it
would be investing approximately
$150 million into expanding its Burke
Marketing Corp. facility in Nevada,
Iowa, pending the proper approvals.
Hormel stated that it would add
210,000 sq. ft. to its existing 225,000sq.-ft. facility including warehouses
and offices.
The expansion would also include
210 new jobs in addition to the current
350 employees. The Iowa Economic
Development Authority Board said
that 52 of the 210 jobs are incented at a
qualifying hourly wage of $24.95.
"This expansion of our Burke
facility is a significant and strategic
investment, allowing us to continue to
expand and accelerate growth in our
foodservice portfolio," said Jim Snee,
chairman of the board, president and
CEO at Hormel Foods. "Burke has been
a leader in the pizza topping industry,
and this expansion will provide them
with the additional capacity to meet the
growing demand for its products."
Burke Marketing Corp. processes
meat crumbles, meatballs, pepperoni
and diced meats at the Iowa-based
plant. The company provides its
products to pizza operators, food
manufactures and food distributors.

the Burke team and the pride every
one of our team members puts into the
creation of our customer's products,"
said Chad Randick, president of Burke
Marketing Corp. "The expansion will
be a positive force for the Nevada
community, bringing added jobs and
boosting the local economy. We are
proud to expand in Nevada and Story
County where Burke has called home
since 1974."
Construction for the expansion
project is expected to begin by the end
of the year, following approvals from
local and state economic development
officials. An expected completion date
was set for early 2020.
JBS S.A. PLANS $12 MILLION
BEEF EXPANSION
JBS S.A. announced plans to double
beef production at the company's
processing plants in Iturama and
Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, at a cost of
R45 million ($12 million). Upgrades will
include modernization of equipment
and enhanced efficiencies.
The company said the expansion
is intended to keep up with surging
demand for beef in China. However,
larger production capacity also will
serve markets in Europe and Brazil.
JBS recently implemented a second
shift to accommodate the growth and
plans to offer new jobs until the second
quarter of 2019.
"We doubled the volume of
production in these two plants to meet
all export certifications, but mainly
because we believe in the strength
of the Chinese market," said Renato
Costa, president of JBS Carnes. "When
we compare the accumulated [beef]
exported this year with the same period
of last year, we had a 125 percent
increase in volume."
JBS has been exporting beef to
China since 2015. Processing plants in
Lins and Andradina, Mozarlândia and
Barra do Garças are certified to export
to China.
DARLING INGREDIENTS
ACQUIRES PET FOOD ASSETS
Darling Ingredients Inc. is continuing
to invest in the pet food industry as it
announced on Oct. 5, the acquisition
of most of the assets of Triple-T Foods
Arkansas Inc. The deal includes a
cold storage operation in Rogers,
Arkansas, and a wet pet food ingredient
production facility in Springdale.
Darling's Dar Pro Ingredients subsidiary
produces ingredients for many of the
pet food industry's largest brands.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Triple-T Foods is an excellent
strategic fit with Darling's growing
specialty pet food ingredient portfolio,"
said Randall Stuewe, Darling
Ingredients chairman and CEO. He said
the acquisition is expected to increase
its customer base by supplementing the
company's other wet pet food facilities
in Kentucky and Nebraska.
"Triple-T has established a long
history of providing quality proteins
into the high-end pet food markets, and
we look forward to building upon that
reputation," Stuewe said.
