WHITE NAMED CEO OF TYSON
After assuming the role of president
in 2016 and CEO later that same year,
Tyson Foods Inc. announced Tom
Hayes stepped down Sept. 30 for
personal reasons. Tyson's board of
directors appointed Noel White as the
company's next president and CEO.
White will also join the company's
board of directors.
He most recently served as group
president of Tyson's Beef, Pork and
International segments in addition to
serving as a member of its enterprise
leadership team. White also worked as
chief operations officer and served as
president of Tyson's poultry business.
His career in the food business spans
more than three decades, including
about 20 years working at IBP, which
Tyson acquired in 2001.
"I am honored to serve as Tyson
Foods' next CEO, and I am excited by
the many opportunities that lie ahead,"
said White. "It has been a privilege to
contribute to this company's evolution
over the course of many years and to
be a part of its becoming one of the
world's largest food companies."
"Noel is a proven leader who has
played an integral role in our enterprise
leadership team for many years," said
John Tyson, chairman of the board.
"He has run our beef, pork and poultry
businesses and is now helping Tyson
Foods capitalize on international
opportunities. His deep institutional
knowledge and a stellar track record
over his more than 30-year career
at Tyson Foods and a predecessor
company give the board the utmost
confidence in his ability to drive the
business forward, accelerate global
growth and create long-term value
for shareholders."
Tyson also expressed gratitude for
the contributions Hayes has made to
grow the company during his tenure.
"Tom has accelerated the strategic
transformation of Tyson Foods' product
portfolio and played an important
role in the company's continuing
development," he said. "The board and
I thank him for his many contributions
to the success of Tyson Foods and wish
him well."
"It is a very difficult decision to
leave Tyson Foods, but after careful
consideration and discussions with my
family and the board, I know it is the
right thing to do," Hayes said. "I am
appreciative of support from my family
and the board for my decision and am
confident that Tyson Foods has a bright
future with Noel White, along with
our enterprise leadership team, as its
leader," he said.
TYSON ACQUIRES KEYSTONE
Tyson Foods announced Aug. 20 it had
reached an agreement to purchase
chicken processor Keystone Foods, a
subsidiary of Brazil's Marfrig Global
Foods, for $2.16 billion.
With US operations based in West
Chester, Pennsylvania, Keystone Foods
is a longtime supplier of burger patties,
poultry and fish to McDonald's Corp.
The company employs approximately
11,000 employees and generated annual
revenue of about $2.5 billion in the 12
months ended June 30.
The deal includes six processing
plants and an innovation center with
US facilities in Alabama, Georgia,
Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania,
Wisconsin, as well as eight plants and
three innovation centers in China, South
Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia,
according to the company.
NAMI
The North American Meat Institute
(NAMI) announced the successor for
President and CEO Barry Carpenter.
Julie Anna Potts took over the
role effective Sept. 24. Carpenter
announced his retirement from NAMI
last December.
Potts has served as executive
vice president and treasurer of the
American Farm Bureau Federation
(AFBF) since 2011. She joined AFBF
in 2004 as general counsel. She
maintained that role until 2009, when
she was named chief counsel of the
Senate
Agriculture
Committee,
serving
under thenChairman
Blanche
Lincoln
of Arkansas.

Chair John Vatri, vice president
of operations at Cardinal Meat

having her join our historic Institute
and our meat industry family and
we are confident that her skills and
experience will help us continue to
serve our members' needs."
Potts also served as an associate
in the environmental law groups of
the law firms Mayer Brown LLP, and
Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal
in Washington, DC, earlier in her
career. In addition, she clerked for US
Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola in
the US District Court for the District of
Columbia from 1997-1998.
Carpenter began his career leading
trade associations in 2007, after a
37-year career leading the US Dept. of
Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing
Service's Livestock and Seed Division.
He served as CEO of the National Meat
Association (NMA) beginning in 2007
and was named CEO of the North
American Meat Association (NAMA) in
2013, after NMA merged with the North
American Meat Processors Association
(NAMP). Carpenter then was named
president and CEO of NAMI in 2015,
which was the result of the merger of
the American Meat Institute and NAMA.
