Mark Polzer has been named vice
president of business development for
Wooster, Ohio-based Certified Angus
Beef. In this role, Polzer is responsible for foodservice, retail, value-added product and international growth

around the world.

In July, Jacinto Fabiosa and Dermot Hayes were named
co-directors of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute at Iowa State Univ., Ames, Iowa. They
succeed John Beghin, who served as director since 1999.
Beghin will spend the next year working at the Univ. of
Sydney, Australia, before returning to Iowa State's Department of Economics.
The International Association for Food Protection,
Des Moines, Iowa, has presented Student Travel Scholarships to the following individuals: Rebecca Goulter, Univ.
of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia; Hyun-Ho Jin, ChungAng Univ., South Korea; Ivan Nastasijevic, Belgrade Univ.;
Haley Oliver, Cornell Univ., Ithaca, N.Y.; and Rebecca Robbins, North Carolina State Univ. Raleigh, N.C. Sponsored by
the association's foundation, the scholarships provide travel
funds to enable selected students to travel to the IAFP annual conference.
Gary Murphy, president of poultry operations for Siloam
Springs, Ark.-based Simmons Foods, was recently named
chairman of the board of The Poultry Federation, Little
Rock.
In related news, Jerry Moyle, president of Cobb-Vantress,
Siloam Springs, Ark., was named vice chairman; Jon Roberts,
general manager of Cargill Meat Solutions, Wichita, Kan.,
was named treasurer; and Trent Goins, sales and government
relations for O.K. Industries, Fort Smith, Ark., was named
secretary. Ken Primm, president of O.K. Farms, Inc., Fort
Smith, Ark., is the past chairman of the board.
Primm was also named "Industry Man of the Year" by the
organization at its 48th annual Poultry Festival in Little Rock.
G.L. "Lew" Lewis, key account manager for Kemin Industries,
Inc., Des Moines, Iowa, was named salesman of the year."
Dan Blackshear, president of sales and marketing for Butterball, LLC, Mt. Olive, N.C., announced his retirement from the
company. Blackshear will retire by the end of the 2007 calendar year. He worked in the poultry industry for 38 years.
The 1,200 associates at Cargill Inc.'s turkey processing facility and feedmill in Springdale, Ark., and hatchery in Gentry,
Ark., have earned OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs'
"Star Award." Under VPP, management, labor and OSHA
work together to implement safety programs and processes
that protect workers more effectively than simply complying with OSHA regulations. The "Star Award" is reserved
for participants that exceed OSHA standards, thereby making them models for their industry.
