Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg, Texas, has announced the appointment of
Kathy Costner as vice president of investor relations.
Atlanta-based Gold Kist, Inc., has
announced its producer of the year is
Charles Edwards, who runs a poultry farm in Suwannee County, Fla.
Edward's attention to detail led to
his selection for this honor. Edwards
was recognized for his work by Gold
Kist's C.E.O., John Bekkers, at a recent luncheon.
The National Pork Board, Des Moines,
has announced the hiring of Dr. Pamela Zaabel, as director of swine health
information and research, and Steve
Larsen as its director of pork safety.
Zaabel will coordinate the N.P.B.'s
Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory
Syndrome Initiative, along with other
research programs that deal with endemic and emerging swine diseases.
She also will develop educational material for producers. Larsen will develop
and implement pre-harvest pork-safety
programs, including those related to
preventing microbiological, physical
and chemical hazards in pork. He also
will oversee pre-harvest and post-harvest pork safety research projects.
Wayne Farms L.L.C.,
Oakwood, Ga., has promoted Tommy Myers
to the newly created position of vice president,
supply chain. Myers
was previously the area
Myers
complex manager for
the Pendergrass and College Park facilities and will now be working with other
company leaders to manage the complete supply chain, including further processing assets, production and inventory
plans, and utilization.
The Beef Checkoff Program has hired
Robert Schafer as a veal development
consultant. In his new role, Schafer
will work to put more veal on casual
dining restaurant menus across the

provide guidance to
the veal menu development team in the
beef checkoff-funded

Market" strategy.
