Ecolab recently celebrated the grand
opening of its 200,000 square-foot
Global Research and Development
Center on the new Ecolab Allan L.
Schuman Campus in Eagan, Minn.,
just minutes from its headquarters in
downtown St. Paul.
Ecolab completed the move to the
new campus in August 2005 to accommodate its growing research and development operations. "It is inspiring
to operate within a world-class facility
that reflects the commitment that Ecolab has to research, development and
engineering," said Susan Nestegard,
Senior Vice-present of R&D and engineering. "We are dedicated to continuing our track record of breakthrough
innovations. This facility allows us to
continue to attract and retain the worldclass talent we require to further our ef-

Joining Ecolab, which
had sales of $4.2 million
in 2004, at the grand opening event were Minnesota
Gov. Tim Pawlenty, local
executives from prominent Minnesota
companies, trade and local media, and
community and civic leaders. "Ecolab

this new center dedicated to research
and development, Ecolab is making a
strong commitment to continued leadership and innovation for the businesses it serves, and continued investment

Conway, Ark.-based CAT2 has been selected as the software vendor for Dakota Provisions' new Huron, S.D.-based
turkey processing facility and for Marshal Durbin's Hattiesburg, Miss., and
Jasper, Ala., processing facilities.
CAT2 implemented its primary and
further processing tool series at the
Dakota Provisions facility, which began operation in January. The company
wanted a system that provided capabilities in all areas of operations. The
facility is projected to process 14,000
turkeys daily, increasing to 40,000 on
two shifts in 2009.
"We selected CAT2 because the need
for traceability through our system is
critical to our business. Real-time data
allows us to adjust our program peak
efficiency on a real-time basis," said
Ken Rutledge, president/C.E.O. of Dakota Provisions.
Marshall Durbin will implement
the CAT2 production labeling and inventory system along with CAT2 food
safety solution, HAT. Both the Jasper
and Hattiesburg facilities needed automated real-time systems to respond
to production and market changes. The
Hattiesburg plant processes 235,000
birds per day while the Jasper facility

processes 195,000 per day.

Durbin has selected CAT2 to provide
real time plant floor data collection
and monitoring and inventory control
systems for our plants and distribution center," said Mark Jeter, C.F.O.
for Birmingham, Ala.-based Marshall

The Middleby Corp., Elgin, Ill., has
acquired Alkar-RapidPak, Lodi, Wis.,
and made management changes at the
company. Bob Hanson has been named
company president of the new Middleby division. He has more than 20 years
of experience in the food processing
industry and previously held the position of vice president of R&D with Alkar-RapidPak.
John Aprea, chairman and C.E.O. of
Vector Packaging, Totowa, N.J., announced the appointment of Brian
Samuels as president and C.O.O. of the
company. Samuels joined Vector as a
senior vice president in 2001, and his
role in product business development
led to the company's introduction of
its Enhance Series of SmokeKote and
ColorKote casings.

the company's latest avian influenza efforts. Ecolab has launched a public health
Web site that tracks the latest news about
the virus. Additionally it is working with
customers to continually plan and go
through models of what to do if the virus
does reach the United States.

more than 20 years of
experience in the food

equipment sales and facility construction. Atkins will be responsible for its
sales in the Southeast region.
Gainco, Inc., Gainesville, Ga., has appointed Miguel Sánchez
as service representative for customers in
Latin America and the
Caribbean region. He is
responsible for supporting the sale and service

in Monterrey, Mexico, focusing on process automation. In the United States,
