Alexandria, Va. The award will be
presented during the F.P.M.A. Annual Conference Sept. 11-13, in Oak
Brook, Ill. After more than 40 years
of government service to the food industry, Oyster retired in 1999. He now
lives in Minnesota and continues to be
active in the industry as a consultant to
many food companies.
Food Marketing Institute, Washington,
D.C., has recently appointed Claudia
Peters as vice president of communications and marketing.
Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns has
appointed five producers to the National
Pork Board. The new appointees include:
Wayne Peugh, Edelstein, Ill.; Brian
Zimmerman, Beatrice, Neb.; Deborah
Johnson, Clinton, N.C.; Carol Hein,
Spickard, Mo.; and Lynn Harrison, Elk
Mound, Wis. The five will serve threeyear terms as part of the 15-member
board responsible for distributing mandatory pork checkoff funds.
ConAgra Foods Inc., Omaha, Neb.,
hired Jim Hardy, as senior vice president, enterprise manufacturing. His
responsibilities are to reinforce and
optimize the company's productionbased assets. Hardy will be based in
Omaha and reports to the chairman
and C.E.O.
Royal Oyster, former branch chief of
Equipment Review for the U.S. Dept.
of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service, will receive the Honorary
Lifetime Member award from the Food
Processing Machinery Association,

Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg,
Texas, was recently honored by
Darden Restaurants with its top
supplier award. Darden, the largest
David Jones has resigned from the
board of directors of Tyson Foods,
Inc., Springdale, Ark. Jones cited increased responsibilities at Spectrum
Brands, where he is chairman and
C.E.O., as the reason for his decision.
He has served on the Tyson board
since 2000. Jones was one of five
independent directors on Tyson's 10member board. The other board members are Lloyd Hackley, Jim Kever,
Jo Ann Smith, Albert Zapanta, Don
Tyson, John Tyson, Leland Tollett,
Barbara Tyson and Richard Bond.
