Hormel Foods makes two acquisitions
Within a matter of weeks, Austin, Minn.-based Hormel Foods Corp. acquired
Lloyd's Barbeque Co., St. Paul, Minn., from General Mills and Mark-Lynn Foods,
Inc., a foodservice manufacturer and distributor based in Breman, Ga.
Lloyd's sells a full range of barbecue products,
including fully cooked barbecue ribs and shredded
beef, pork and chicken in the company's distinctive plastic tubs. Lloyd's Barbeque was one of the
first companies to offer fully cooked, branded meal solutions out of the fresh
meatcase. The company was acquired by General Mills in 1999.
"Lloyd's is an excellent addition to the Hormel Foods family of consumer
brands and fits our growing array of quality products sought by today's busy
families," said Joel Johnson, chairman of the board and C.E.O. of Hormel Foods.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Mark-Lynn Foods specializes in the manufacture of products including salt and
pepper packets, ketchup, mustard, sauces and salad dressings, creamers, sugar
packets as well as jellies, desserts, and drink mixes. Founded in 1983, the company operates more than 35 production lines at its manufacturing facility in Breman. The acquisition cost Hormel Foods $42.5 million, and it will be managed by
the company's Diamond Crystal Brands unit. The acquisition is expected to add
an additional $50 million in sales for Hormel.
